Dear non-English speaking readers and non-English reading speakers,
decision has been made: I don’t spoil my English with my beautiful and smart Hungarian any more. Don’t think it’s easy for a creative copywriter who uses his mother language as basic tool in everyday life.
What I really want you to understand is not the text itself but the reason why I have to write it. I’ve left my beloved country to study English in an amazing environment where I can be surrounded by native speakers. But as I consider, my improvement is much slower than planned before. After four and a half months – at halftime of my Australian adventure – there are too much areas in my English I’m not happy with.
Although I could taste ozzy brothership while training with freediving buddies in Sydney, my language wasn't that happy with living with four Italian together... Ciao amici, I hope you know I'm saying. Esatto. Cairns has changed everything. Nowadays I'm totally surrounded with native speakers - nice Australian/Irish flatmates and ozzy freedivers, as well.
Navitas Cairns is the language school where I attend an English course, and it’s Navitas Bondi Junction in Sydney, where I previously did. Why do I tell this? Because of their slogan. I like slogans pretty much, you know. As creating slogans used to be one of the funniest parts of my daily routine, I’m quite critical with them.
Navitas – speak in English, think in English, dream in English
This is a good one, isn’t it? I don’t care if my English is said to be advanced or not – actually, it is. Nevertheless, forget levels. I speak in English more or less. Do I make loads of mistakes? Yes, I do.
What about thinking? When I’m not forced speaking (Skype/phone) or writing (blog/e-mails) in Hungarian, I usually think in English. I didn’t mention reading because I haven’t read a word in Hungarian since I left home – another good point against Facebook… Yeah, unfortunately I can’t get away from social network. Besides its benefits… Oh, let’s forget about Facebook, c’mon! I don’t visit Hungarian webpages at all, that’s for sure.
Because I have a dream. It's dreaming in English.
From my point of view, learning English in an English-speaking country used to be much more efficient. I suppose, e.g. 10 years ago without having used Internet I could have reached a higher level. Vulnerable opinion, I know. I could line up a beautiful bunch of advantages, too – click English speaking sites instead, fella… If you say that, the point of my idea is still hidden. I hope not.
Ok. Ben the goose has established the softest dictatorship you’ve ever seen, proving that – surprising or not – he’s ready to make a deal. So, if you want to be up-to-date even if you don’t speak (or understand) English, check the latest published pictures, mate. Every picture tells a story in the language you are thinking in. Fair enough? Deal.
In case of having no idea what the bloody hell I am writing about, use comments to ask your questions. However, it doesn’t make sense at all, as there won’t be any exceptions making the rule. I don’t want to discourage anybody. Never give up, try it again and again and again, and let’s see what happens.
Secondly – after defining my position –, I have to apologise for any inconvenience this changing makes. I know that most people regularly visit Ben the goose just because of Hungarian copies considered entertaining.
Bad news, guys. Keep your fingers crossed, so I might be fed up with English sooner than later. Anyway, do not bet that it’s something to happen.
Last but not least let's listen to on of the funniest online personalities ever:
Cheers mates,
the selfish bastard
P.S. No, unfortunately I’m not paid by Navitas for blogging this stuff (I wish I would). And no, I don’t use any kind of dictionary – I’m proud of my „slightly awkward” English and the simple language I use.
P.S.2 Adventurous posts and images coming soon
Now, let’s comment. English - welcome, Hungarian - not to be ignored…
Dear Ben.
VálaszTörlésYour improvement is spoiled by your blog. Come on, bro... At the end of a whole day you finish a Hungarian copy in notime.
VálaszTörlésThat was awesome mate, keep up the good work.
VálaszTörlésYour English has improved heaps and at the end of the day - sosem fogsz magyarul elfelejetni ugyhogy nyomjad csak az angolt addig amit itt vagy!
In the words of the yoga instructor from "Couples Retreat"...ENCOURAGEMENT!
VálaszTörlésAll the greatest ideas encounter violent opposition from those that resist change!
I think that being yourself is highly underrated so DO NOT CHANGE!
Adri
Keep going with English!!!
Szoval én most megfogadom hogy elkezdek angolul tanulni! Tudnál kreálni egy bowly email cimet ahova irhatenk neked pár sort? Vagyis tulajdonképpen csak egy kérdésem lenne: hogyan tudom elérni azt az emberkét aki segített neked megérkezésedkor Sydney-ben?
VálaszTörlésAs i said before ... it's all U dood!
VálaszTörlésAs long as you apologize, you're just half way there! It's your time, take it!
Dive in your life! :)
